My new title is: Discrimination: With or Without Malice
At first I really couldn’t believe what I was hearing. There was a large, simultaneous intake of air as my family around me all suddenly drew in a breath. Looking around I saw a very large myriad of emotions in the range of shock, bewilderment, indifference, and even disgust. Questions began flying about the room such as: “How long have you known” and my personal favorite: “Are you sure?” This large array of emotions was released at the same point in time when my twenty-four year old male cousin stated one simple fact about himself: that he was gay.
I feel like I am in the room with you, I think you have done a great job of setting the scene for me, even though I am sure the tension was even greater than what you describe.
